There are so many threads about changing Battletech from what it is into what its not. About updating the rules, or the business model or about making changes that are so grand and comprensive that they are beyond the scope and ability of CGL or would so fundamentally change the game that it would no longer be the 'Classic' Battletech.
If we are going to change Battletech why not focus more on the quality of life and game. Focus on the changes that could easily be ignored but if adopted could make moves towards improving the quality of play.

To that end the two incremental improvements I would like to see are:
- 1. Better Recordsheets - Specifically add in more of the tables (ala Solaris Skun Werks) and the rules for that particular build. In a more perfect world the Masterunitlist.info would let you print out the classic Battletech Sheets, if that could include an option to have reverse side that had all the rules and tables you needed for that particular unit it greatly speed up the need to look up a given rule. This would include the more mundane things things like the mods for various actuator hits. Damage calculation for DFAs and Charges.. etc.
- 2. Create an 'Objectives' and 'Scoring' system - Encourage objectives that are more than just a fight to the death. Create a scoring system that allows the game to be called once one side has the momentum but there is still 90 min left to play. I really like how the Alpha Strike Chaos Campaign is both player vs. player and encourages the losing player to withdraw and presever their force as much as possible. Bonus points for an online campaign generator that ties together the mastunitlist.info mechs, new maps, and map print options.
A well designed Lance vs. Lance scenario between two competent players can easily be resolved in a couple of hours. The first two options should cut down on the 'book time' needed as new less familiar elements are added and removed. The second point allows the tactical planning to begin prior to deployment, and not 2-3 turns in as you are reacting to your opponent.

Beyond the first two, If I wanted to get more ambitious in terms of things to change or improve. Though they might require a deeper reworking and more wishful thinking.

Cheat Sheet Health And Fitness
If you take a look at how Death From Above has slowly incorporated more of the RPG into the Mech vs. Mech battles. If CGL were to create a vastly simplified system that was part of the updated record sheet that enabled pilots to take other non-combat option on the field. For example, rules and skill that let players make challenges for 1v1 Fights, negotiate a retreat with the OppFor, have a Mercenaries turn on you etc etc, would create a lot more story telling and campaign options than currently exists.
